Where Do I Find The Transfer/Recycling Station?

The Transfer /Recycling Station is located on Peltoma Avenue and is available to all Pittsfield residents and businesses.

Are Stickers Required?

To use the Transfer Station and Recycling Center you will need a sticker to apply to your vehicle. These are available at the Town Office.  The fee is $20.00/yr for Residents and $40.00/yr for Pittsfield Contractors/Businesses. The Sticker is good until December 31st.

How Do I Become Involved In Initiatives Concerning Recycling?

To volunteer to help or learn what's going on, please contact the Town Office at 487-3136 or the Transfer Station at 487-3361.  Watch for notices on Recycling Committee Meetings - normally held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. at the Pittsfield Municipal Building.

Tan cardboard; paperboard; dry food cardboard packaging such as cereal or cracker boxes; brown paper bags; milk boxes; juice containers

Break down cartons and flatten; Can use a carton to put recyclables in

Waxed, wet and/or dirty cardboard

Newspaper

Includes flyers; magazines; catalogues; telephone books

Tie in bundles or place in grocery bags, cartons or garbage bags

If it is raining, put in plastic garbage bag

White Paper

Includes computer paper with blue or green lines

Place in a grocery bag or plastic garbage bag

If it is raining, put in a plastic garbage bag

(Private and personal items such as checking or charge account statements, personal letters, medical reports, etc., should be shredded or ripped up)

Mixed Paper

(All Colored Paper)

Colored office paper; manila folders; coated (slick) paper; post-it-notes; window envelopes; colored bond paper; construction paper; colored copy paper; index cards; lined paper; legal pad paper; NCR paper; paper with printing/writing; and fax paper

ALL PAPER CAN BE PUT TOGETHER

Place in a grocery bag or plastic garbage bag.

If it is raining, put in a plastic garbage bag; no paper towels, napkins or plates

Metal Cans

Aluminum and tin cans; other aluminum containers such as pie plates; foil; salad and cake containers

Need to rinse or wash out; be careful of sharp edges; does not need to be crushed; do not need to remove labels

No dirty cans

Plastics

All #1-#7 (HDPE, LDPE PETE) rigid plastic containers

Rinsed or washed out; place in the recycling container or bring to the transfer station in a grocery bag or plastic garbage bag

No dirty containers; no covers

Glass

All glass bottles and jars

Rinsed or washed out; DO NOT NEED TO SEPARATE COLORS ANY MORE!

Please do not break

No dirty bottles; no ash trays, drinking glasses, picture frames or window glass; no pyrex, crystal, china or ceramics

Compost Pile

All leaves; all grass clippings

Bag up in garbage bags; empty out at designated area

No food waste

Universal Wastes (2 types) Mercury & Electronics

Mercury containing devices such as fluorescent lamps; thermometers, mercury switches; electronics such as computer monitors, CPUs, keyboards & mice; microwaves; TVs, VCRs and any other electronics containing circuit boards

Bring to the Transfer Station in closed containers or secured. There is a separate storage container designated at the transfer station for these items. Ask for assistance with disposal

Do not break; use caution

Clean wood and scraps

Clean wood scraps; brush; trees; stumps; slabs; pallets

Take to designated area at Transfer Station

No bulky or demolition materials mixed in; no ashes

Tires

Automobile, truck, trailer, equipment

Take to designated area at Transfer Station; includes all tires; tubes and rubber protective flaps

No rims
Metal/White Goods Large appliances such as stoves; refrigerators; etc. Take to designated area at Transfer Station Freon must be removed prior to disposal
