Farms and Farmers Market

The Town of Pittsfield is extremely lucky to have such a variety of agricultural operations.  Farms are a backbone of Somerset County and its communities.  Providing jobs, income and wholesome foods, farming is an economic benefit to the community.  The Town and area are indeed fortunate to be able to come to our local farms and the Farmers' Market. The Town has become an agriculture cluster with extensive farming activities.  When compiling the latest Comprehensive Plan, a list of 31 farms was collected.  A number of the farms are commercial dairy farms that sell to the milk industry to provide milk for the State's grocery stores.  Other farms are small family farms or hobby farms.  A number of farms sell to the public which are listed below.

Pittsfield Farmers' Market

Hathorn Park every Monday and Thursday

2 pm - 6 pm, rain or shine, from the first week in May to the last week in October

Products:  Seedlings, sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, blooming lupines, cukes, spinach, beet greens, peas, beans, lettuce, onions, cantaloupes, asparagus, other vegetables, organic produce, culinary and medicinal herbs, perennials, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, rhubarb, meats, breads and other baked goods, honey, maple syrup, eggs, honey, jams, jellies, pickles, relishes, chutneys and assorted sauces.

Products:  Organic vegetables and herbs, dried tomatoes, apples and blooming lupines in pots, herbs, vegetable and flower seeds. Maple syrup in quarts.

CSA shares, value-added products, wholesale and retail sales.

Open:  Tours on 2nd Sunday in July

Directions:  After I-95 overpass, Snakeroot Road is 2nd left in about 2 miles.  Farm is about ½ mile down.  Sign at the end of driveway.  Also at Farmers Markets in Pittsfield, Waterville, Unity, Orono and Newport.
