Code Enforcement Officer
The Code Enforcement Officer can be reached by emailing buildinginspector@pittsfield.org or call 487-3136.
PUBLIC NOTICE EFFECTIVE 07/01/2012: In accordance with State law, the Town of Pittsfield will begin enforcement of the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC). This code contains construction and energy efficiency requirements and ventilation and radon control standards that must be followed. For many years prior to 07/01/2012, the Town had its own Building Code that was based on the NFPA 5000 Building Construction and Safety Code, 2003 edition. On 07/01/2012, the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC) will be followed in Pittsfield.
Residential: The Code Enforcement Officer will inspect residential construction.
Commercial: Due to the complexity of the commercial inspections, the Town will not inspect commercial construction. For any commercial structures that fall under MUBEC, an inspection report must be submitted to the Building Inspector certifying compliance with MUBEC. The inspection report must be prepared by a State-certified Third-Party Inspector. Property owners should be aware that contracting the services of a Third-party Inspector to conduct required inspections and to prepare an inspection report will add cost to their building project.
The Town will assist as much as we can with MUBEC. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Building Inspector on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 487-3136.
